This will be a ‘bring a picture you’ve created to share with each other”. It could be a piece you really like and want others to see it. Maybe it’s a piece that you’re stuck with and you would appreciate some constructive criticism. Maybe it’s a piece that you tried something new and were surprised at the outcome. Let’s just bring something to show the group celebrate our creativity with each other.
On January 21, Bill Fulton gave a demo on values. Values refer to how light or how dark objects or areas in your painting are. We need some light areas, some dark areas, some middle areas. A good painting has distinct values with clear shifts between values.
Bill showed us the values in some of his paintings, and painted a couple of value sketches for us.
Notes from his presentation:
The light from the sky is usually the brightest area in the painting.
When it hits the ground, some of the light is absorbed in the ground, so it is slightly darker.
When there is a vertical object, the light is blocked so it shows up as a very dark value.
When there is a hill or mountain, it shows up as somewhat dark.
Twenty-nine members of PAL enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch and party on December 10. Thanks to Janie and her committee who decorated the tables and arranged for the lunch.
After lunch, Janie Ballard led us in a Christmas Trivia game and then we drew stickers to exchange our 5×7 paintings. Afterward, we passed all the paintings to each other so we could all admire each other’s work.
